Example citing necessary policy modifications in credit card payment systems
Dear Sir,
This is a suggestion regarding the policies for credit card. I am citing a small example as below : -
If a product has been brought on credit card and payment made by swiping the card. After 3-4 days of purchasing the product, the product develops a fault. The product is taken back to the retailer and he keeps the product/returns the product to the manufacturer as it is under warranty.
In such a situation, there should be a remedy to hold the payment of the product by the consumer. the payment should be booked on the manufacturer as the faulty (branded) product has been booked on the customer. Since the product is packed the retailer is unaware of the fault in the product. So he escapes the blame.
There is no guarantee also that the product will be replaced. it is also said that the product can be repaired and sent back. It may be noted that in products like a pen drive or a memory card which comes with a seal there isnt a possibility of checking the product before buying it. The breaking of the seal of the product itself is considered as bought and used. Why should a customer accept a new brand product in such a condition ?
The manufacturer has escaped by booking the faulty product, the retailer has escaped by not bearing any encumbrance. The customer's credit card has already been swiped and the product is also not in the hands of the customer!!.
In such a situation, when the product is under guarantee and is returned back, there should be a recourse available with the retailer wherein he should give a credit back to the customer on his credit card by swiping it and debit the manufacturer's account for his faulty product so that there isnt any undue payment made as the product has not been purchased. Why should a consumer pay and also undergo such harrasment. There should be a remedial procedure for back booking of the credit card in such cases to protect the customer!!
Thanks
LS.
